Community Moderator

The heartbeat of our online community space. You monitor discussions, guide members to the right resources, and model the values we all share.
Responsibilities
- ›Monitor and moderate discussions in the online community space
- ›Ensure discussions comply with the community Code of Conduct
- ›Answer general questions and guide vCCs to appropriate resources
- ›Check for new posts daily, respond to unanswered questions, and welcome new members
- ›Co-host community events with Crisis Text Line (optional)

Nighttime Platform Moderator

Nighttime Platform Moderator
A steady, knowledgeable presence in the platform chat during overnight hours. Nighttime Platform Moderators take conversations between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM EST while simultaneously moderating the chat — supporting fellow vCCs in real time during our highest-demand hours.
Responsibilities
- ›Take conversations on the platform during overnight shifts (8 PM – 5 AM EST)
- ›Answer questions and provide guidance to vCCs in the platform chat concurrently
- ›Maintain an informative and supportive presence in chat throughout the shift
- ›Direct vCCs to their supervisor when a concern is beyond peer support
- ›Handle common questions: SAM training, contact techniques, coping skills, platform navigation

Onboarding Guide

Onboarding Guide
The first friendly face a new vCC meets. Onboarding Guides help new volunteers feel welcomed, confident, and ready to engage during their first 30 days. Guides are paired with each new vCC cohort on a rotating basis, approximately every 3 weeks.
Responsibilities
- ›Greet and acknowledge new members in welcome spaces and introduction threads
- ›Help new members understand how the community works and where to find key resources
- ›Respond to common early questions about platform navigation and community norms
- ›Prompt new members to introduce themselves or join their first discussion
- ›Flag recurring questions and onboarding challenges to staff

A specialized Champions role for experienced volunteers who act as beta users of the platform. Members provide structured feedback directly to the Build and Learning teams, bridging the gap between volunteer experience and product decisions.
Responsibilities
- ›Complete one platform observation per month
- ›Provide async feedback within one week when prompted
- ›Participate in live feedback calls focused on new or upcoming features
- ›Surface ideas for new features, improvements, and volunteer needs
- ›Actively take conversations on the platform throughout the term
