Hi Community! đź‘‹ We are so happy to celebrate and honor Black History Month by highlighting the astounding contributions and achievements of the Black community.Â
Civil rights leaders, artists, politicians, and scientists are just a few ways we’ve seen the community’s impact on the world we know today; let us all celebrate the Black history being made today and every day.
Origins of Black History Month
In 1915, historian Carter G. Woodson and minister Jesse E. Moorland sponsored a week of events that inspired schools and communities to organize local celebrations, establish history clubs, and host performances and lectures. For years, cities across the county began following suit, and by 1976, President Gerald Ford officially recognized Black History Month. Black Mental Health and Wellness
Fostering positive Black mental health and wellness is crucial as the African American community has suffered health disparities for generations. Many organizations and resource directories are advocating for African American mental health care and reducing the stigma within the community.Â
Representation matters, especially when the African American community sees advocates, activists, celebrities, and politicians who look like them and open up about their mental health and well-being! Black History Month is the perfect time to learn about and acknowledge the legacy of Black scholars and medical practitioners and the various ways of fostering mental health and wellness throughout the diaspora.
