Hey Community 👋 Happy Women’s History Month 🥳
Every March, we celebrate women's contributions to making history, influencing cultures, and building communities. This year’s theme is Women in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. This theme allows us to honor and recognize the women around us, including inspiring volunteers and community advocates, for their contributions to building a more diverse and inclusive future.Â
Origins of Women’s History MonthÂ
Beginning in 1978, a school district in Sonoma, California, organized a weeklong celebration of women's contributions to culture, history, and society. This idea caught on within communities, schools, and organizations around the county.
By 1980, President Jimmy Carter issued the first presidential proclamation declaring National Women's History Week starting on March 8. Six years later, the National Women's History Project successfully petitioned Congress to expand the week to the entire month.
